FOODIE FIND: PROSCIUTTO PARMA HAM

Parma ham or prosciutto in Italian, is a traditionally-made and additive-free ham, made from just two ingredients, pork legs and salt. No nitrates or nitrites, no added water or glucose syrup.

The Parma Ham Consortium Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma, was founded in 1963 and controls every aspect of production. Only Parma ham with the consortium’s gold crown, can be considered as authentic. Whether bought off the bone in a deli or from Lidl, the gold crown guarantees that the ham bought, is authentic Italian ham.

Prosciutto di Parma has DOP status within the European Union. Here’s a tutorial in English, which show to prepare and slice Parma ham on the bone.
